    • MAC (1996) is one of Niemeyer's most photographed works; the curving red ramp was conceived as "a flower blooming from the rock."
    • Itacoatiara means "painted/carved rock" in Tupi; the headland to the left of the beach has a 15-minute mini-trail with a spectacular view.
    • Parque da Cidade is an official paragliding launch ramp — with luck, you'll watch paragliders take off during the sunset.
    • The Rio–Niterói Bridge is more than 13 km long — at its opening in 1974, it was the second longest in the world.
